We all know that we should improve our diets by eating more fresh fruits and vegetables. We try and try, but with our own busy schedules and keeping up with the children’s activities, more often than not, we opt for a “grab and go” meal. The problem with this kind of eating, though, is that these foods are very acidic, which upsets the PH levels in our body, resulting in a of myriad health problems which include, constipation, obesity, low energy levels, and even the common cold.
There is a simple solution to this problem. Add a healthy green drink into your daily diet. Green drinks can be made fresh by juicing fresh green vegetables, sprouts, and grasses, such as wheat grass, barley grass, alfalfa, broccoli, kale, spinach, etc. OK! I hear you! The time needed for shopping for fresh vegetables, the preparation time needed for juicing the vegetables, the clean up… where’s the solution to the time factor?
There are many green products available on the market today. These products are made by slowly dehydrating the greens, to preserve the nutrients in them, then they are crushed to form the powder. These can be purchased in powder form, or in pill or capsule form. Using the powder to make a green drink is the most beneficial, because it is readily absorbed into your system, with no lag time working its way through the digestive system. This means you will be hydrating your body with alkalizing nutrients plus you will experience an almost immediate boost in your energy level.
The best green powders contain a variety of greens, which should include wheat grass, barley grass, alfalfa, and spirulina.
Wheat grass contains most of the vitamins and minerals needed to sustain the human body. It is an excellent source of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, sulfur, cobalt and zinc. Essentially, contains the nutrients of an entire meal in about 2 oz. of wheat grass.
Barley grass is a very strong antioxidant, which protects the body from free radical damage and enhances the immune system. It is very beneficial to those suffering from arthritis, asthma, obesity, anemia, constipation, hypertension, diabetes, heart disease and kidney problems. The chlorophyll in barley grass is antibacterial which detoxifies the body. It will also reduce fecal, urine and body odors.
Alfalfa is loaded with vitamins and minerals needed to maintain optimum health. It has over 300 nutrients and phytonutrients. It is also a good source of fiber. Alfalfa helps to lower cholesterol levels, improve elimination and boost your energy levels. It is also a great blood purifier.
Spirulina is a blue-green algae that delivers powerful antioxidant support, potent joint health and much more. It is over 60% protein. Spirulina helps to break up and eliminate undigested food in the intestines, which will improve your overall digestive process.
The easiest way to make your green drink is to use a shakeable container. I have found that if you use a blender or some other form of of any kind, you are going to get a lot of froth. You’ll want to use a 12-16 oz. container. Fill it about half full with pure, cold water. Add your green powder, close and shake until thoroughly mixed, then fill the container the rest of the way to the top. If you don’t particularly like the taste of the green drink, try adding a little organic apple juice. Strange as that may sound, the two go very well together.
Try a green drink today… you will love what it does for your body.
